Last Week’s Overall Predictions:
In the last 3 games:
Saturday April 6th – Bulls vs Philadelphia 76ers (Wyse – L, Marcus – L) Result: L

Tuesday April 9th – Bulls vs NY Knicks (Wyse – W, Marcus – L) Result: L

Wednesday April 10th – Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers (Wyse – L, Marcus – L) Result: L

Off Season Roster Review
Now that the season is over, what is the number one thing we need going forward?
Point Guard – We need an elite level point guard. Someone who can dish it out with a quickness and also be able to create his own shot. We need a better starter to replace Dunn. If we get #2, Ja Morant would be that guy and we could keep Dunn on the bench and sign Walt Lemon as the 2nd backup PG. If we don’t get Morant, can a lesser rookie start at PG? Shaq Harrison is on the books for next year as well, but it’s doubtful we keep him, as he didn’t have a very good year. Then throw in the Derrick Rose return rumors, and this thing gets much more complicated. The NBA draft lottery results will tell us everything as soon as our number comes in.
Center – Rolo may be leaving the team for greener pastures, leaving Felicio as a backup to WCJ next season. We need to solidify the Center role badly. We have a decent rookie in WCJ, but he can’t match up to Elite centers (yet). Just having Carter and Felicio at the 5 leaves a gigantic hole in our offense AND defense. Felicio does not play well with a single player on our roster. Statistically, he’s the worst player in all of the NBA in terms of on/off score. The Bulls are a -37 on/off score with Felicio in the game. That’s twice as bad as the next worse team. But what can we do with him??
Shooting Guard – We have too many shooting guards on the roster. None of the backups are of high quality. Most of those guys we have to end the season are waivers, trades for cash by other teams trying to avoid the luxury tax, or G-League guys. We’ll have LaVine, Denzel Valentine and Antonio Blakeney.
Small Forward – We love Otto Porter Jr, but will Hutch be able to evolve into a solid 3? Do we need another tenured vet to get wins over teaching moments for Hutch? Of course if we land Zion Williamson, we will have perhaps TOO MANY options. But that’s just a common dream among every lottery team in the league.
Power Forward – Who is going to backup Lauri now that Portis is gone? Technically, Felicio and Lauri are the only Power Forwards listed for the Bulls roster, but Felicio is probably only listed as a center because he sucks so bad and no one pays attention to what he does anyway. But this reinforces the point. We have no one behind Lauri to handle the 4 at all.
With all that being established and of all those things listed, what is going to be our biggest weakness that needs to get filled for next season?

Keep Him or Can Him?
Now that the Bulls Season is over, it’s time to put our GM caps on once again. We added a lot of new guys during the course of the season. It’s time to evaluate those “end of contract” guys and see if we vote to KEEP a player on the roster, or CAN the player, sending them packing.
Kris Dunn (PG) 1 year left on his contract
Marcus: CAN, Wyse: CAN
Shaq Harrison (SG) 1 year left on his contract

This week in Bulls History…
April 3, 1998 (21 Years Ago)

Michael Jordan reached 29,000 career points in a 107-93 win over Minnesota. At the time, Jordan joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to reach that plateau.
April 6, 1975 (44 Years Ago) – Bob Love Leads Bulls to First Division Title

Coming off an All-Star season, Bob Love lead the Bulls to a 47-win campaign and their first division title in 1975. The Chicago defense was stifling and the backcourt duo of Norm Van Lier  and Jerry Sloan was enough to take the Bulls to Game 7 of the Conference Finals.
Last Week’s Overall Predictions: In the last 3 games, we both predicted a 1-2 record.
[Wyse Prediction] 1-2 for the week
[Marcus Prediction] 1-2 for the week.
Sat March 30 – Bulls vs Toronto Raptors (LOSS) (Wyse L, Marcus L)

Newcomer Walt Lemon Jr., the Chicagoan called up from the G League Windy City Bulls the previous day, led them with 19 points and added six assists and four steals against the Raptors. Timothe Lawawu-Cabarrot added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Shaq Harrison had 15 points and eight rebounds and Antonio Blakeney scored 12 points as the Bulls lost their fourth consecutive game to stay within two games of the Cavaliers (19-58) for the third spot in the draft order.
Mon April 1 – Bulls @ NY Knicks (LOSS) (Wyse W, Marcus W)

It looks like the Bulls out-tanked our expectations in New York, losing the Battle of the Tanks against the Knicks! Lemon Jr., Shaq Harrison, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Wayne Selden were starters.
Former G-League Windy City Bulls players Rawle Alkins, JaKarr Sampson, and Brandon Sampson made up a big portion of the team’s bench.
Yet the one regular who actually suited up for the Bulls on Monday did what he could to keep his team close, or at least, competitive. In fact, it was his best offensive effort of the season, as Robin Lopez went for 29 points in 30 minutes of action, all of which came on his birthday.
Those efforts still weren’t enough for the very short-handed Bulls even against the struggling Knicks, who led the majority of the game in a 113-105 victory that snapped their six-game losing streak.
Wed March 3 – Bulls @ Washington Wizards (WIN) (Wyse L, Marcus L)
Bulls vs Wizards Post Game Analysis.
The Bulls took on the Washington Wizards in DC. The Bulls WON the game by the score of 115-114 on a limited roster for the Bulls. This game was actually close the whole way with the Wizards clearly lowering their play down to the level of the Bulls.
For the Wizards:

Our old pals Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis played their usual game. By usual, I mean Parker went 0-5 in the first quarter and left with a left knee sprain.

In this day in Bulls History…

On this day 6 years ago, the Chicago Bulls ended the Miami Heat 27 game winning streak. The game was actually one of the best games of the Nate Robinson era. Boozer had 21 points and 17 rebounds, and Nate Robinson had 14 points, nearly equaling the Heat bench single-handedly. It was one of those games where Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose and Marco Belinelli, Rip Hamilton were all out with injury. Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, Taj, Jimmy and Nate took over the game, stunning Lebron, D-Wade and Bosh and ending Miami’s nearly 2 month long winning streak.
Bulls vs Trailblazers Post Game Analysis.

The Bulls starters were: Shaq Harrison, Antonio Blakeney, Brandon Sampson, Wayne Selden and Robin Lopez. The Bulls called up 2-way players Rawle Alkins and Brandon Sampson even though Windy City Bulls had playoff game tonight, which seemed odd being that it was a 1 game playoff, which they LOST because Sampson and Alkins were playing for the Bulls tonight instead of with the Windy City Bulls.
The Bulls LOST 118-98.
Not much to talk about here except the great play of Robin Lopez continuing. Shaq Harrison added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals for the Bulls who were playing against a good Portland team that was still reeling from the tragic loss of Jusuf Nurkic’s injury, which was among the most gruesome thing in an NBA game next to Gordon Hayward and Paul George. His ankle basically shattered as he landed on it wrong. He may be out for a full year in recovery, so you have to feel for Portland going into the playoffs without one of their leading stars. Even our buddy Cristiano Felicio got some tick, getting 15 points in the game. Rawle Alkins, who just last week on the show we wanted him to get called up. He did, and got 2 points in 16 minutes of play.
Last Week’s Overall Predictions:
Saturday, March 23 – Bulls vs Utah Jazz (Wyse – L, Marcus – L)

Tuesday, March 26 – Bulls @ Toronto Raptors (Wyse – L, Marcus – L)

Wednesday, March 27 – Bulls vs Portland Trailblazers (Wyse – L, Marcus – L)
In the last 3 games, we both predicted a 0-3 record. Both called a perfect prediction!

Rumored Bulls Trade for Anthony Davis

There is a rumored trade in the works that would depend on where the Bulls land in the NBA lottery. This trade would immediately shift the rebuild timetable and place a legit All-Star in a Bulls uniform.
Trade Package: Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine, 2019 first-round pick
The Pelicans’ primary focus in a Davis deal is landing “a young player … who has the potential to become an All-NBA performer,” per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Markkanen and LaVine might both fit that bill, plus there’s a 12.

Bulls vs Wizards Post Game Analysis. Bulls WIN 126-120

The Chicago Bulls were short-handed in their return to the United Center after a long West Coast road trip on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop them from getting the victory, as they road huge games from Lauri Markkanen and Kris Dunn to a 126-120 victory over the now fading Washington Wizards.
Markkanen posted yet another huge double-double with one of his best games of the year by going for 32 points and 13 rebounds, while Dunn had what was easily his best game of the year with a season-high 26 points and 13 assists to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
Even the Brazilian Marshmallow got in the action with 16 points and 5 rebounds!
It’s quite fitting that Markkanen hit a huge clutch three for his final points with 32.4 seconds left in overtime off of Dunn’s final assist to secure the victory.
Markkanen: 32 pts | 13 rebs | 5 asts
Dunn: 26 pts | 10-24 FG | 13 asts
Beal: 27 pts | 7 rebs | 7 asts

Otto Porter Jr has been out the last 2 games with a right rotator cuff strain.

This is a bit of a blessing in disguise, as it gives us some games to evaluate our bench role players to see who we can to keep next year. It also helps out the tank, as Otto has been contributing to a lot of Wins as of late. The injury is just a strain and shouldn’t put Otto out for too long.
But with the tanking, it may even be time to shut down Otto and Zach anyway.

Last Week’s Overall Predictions:
In the last 4 games, we both predicted a 1-3 record. The Bulls outplayed our predictions, going 2-2, including the victory over Phoenix and Washington.
Our Predictions Last Week:
Friday March 15th – Bulls at LA Clippers (Wyse L, Marcus L)
Sunday March 17th – Bulls at Sacramento Kings (Wyse L, Marcus L)
Monday March 18 – Bulls at Phoenix (Tank Battle) (Wyse W, Marcus L)

Should Zach Shut it Down?

Zach Lavine has missed the last 2 games with a patellar tendon strain as revealed by Jim Boylen this week. There is no reason for the Bulls to rush LaVine back given their place in the standings, and they can turn toward the combination of Otto Porter, Shaq Harrison and Antonio Blakeney on the wing while LaVine is sidelined. It may help our tank out tremendously.
But should Zach consider shutting down the whole season?
For a competitive standpoint, of course. It’s well-known how much Boylen wants to win. Remember, he’s the coach who had his players doing extra wind sprints and pushups when he took over. But even the Bulls’ boisterous coach knows what’s at stake here, via K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune:
“What we’re hoping for is every day he responds and gets a little better,” he said. “But it’s not the situation or the time of the year to push a guy to try and get a certain seed or home court. That’s as simply as I can put it. I think you know my personality. I want to win every game and play our ass off every game. But we’ve got to be smart too.’’
With the addition of Otto Porter Jr. and the continued growth of Markkanen, a healthy LaVine would excite fans and probably pull off a few wins. In an era where tanking is the norm and mediocrity is NBA purgatory, however, the risk for those wins is simply too high.
Zach LaVine on approach with his right patellar tendinitis: “There’s no reason to go out there and try to risk anything right now. It’s not smart.”
There really isn’t a better way to say it than that. Of course Zach LaVine wants to be on the court and performing at a high level, but this season has always been about what comes next.
Rest and recuperation is the most common sense approach for their budding star. For the Chicago Bulls, another serious LaVine injury would be too severe to endure.

Post Game – Bulls vs 76ers

The Bulls played a highlight reel filled game vs the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday Night, pulling off a victory with the score of 108-107.
The Bulls high flying leading scorer continued to come into focus with 39 points, including the game winning driving score with 1.6 seconds left for a 108-107 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. It was the Bulls sixth win in the last nine games that includes victories over hard charging Finals contenders Philadelphia and Boston.
Robin Lopez continued his scoring mastery with 19 points and nine rebounds and Otto Porter Jr. added 15 points and a team best matching nine rebounds. Former Bull Jimmy Butler led the 76ers with 22 points, including two free throws with 4.8 seconds left that appeared like it would save the 76ers from losing after leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter. But LaVine took a dribble handoff from Lopez, the 76ers blew the defensive switch and LaVine flew down the lane for the deciding layup, pumping his fist in exhilaration as he also was fouled. Though he missed the free throw. But in Butler’s two appearances in the United Center since his trade, LaVine has outplayed Butler down the stretch leading to a pair of Bulls victories.
In a strange occurrence, the Bulls actually had to replay the last .5 seconds TWICE. Lavine and Lopez had already done post game interviews and Otto Porter was actually “mid-stride” in submitting urine for a league drug test and couldn’t return to the floor.
All in all, this was a fantastic win to add to the season with several highlights that are destined to be on the season-long highlight reel.

Is Washington Getting Buyers Remorse for Portis and Parker?

There are obviously no take-backs, as we really like Otto Porter Jr for the Bulls, but it’s very interesting to see the reaction of Washington Wizards fans regarding how their end of the trade has turned out.
So far, here’s what they have done on the Wizards:
Portis:

He’s played in 6 games, averaging 27.5 minutes per game. He is scoring 15.8 PPG, shooting .500, 7.

Bulls vs Memphis Grizzlies Post-Game

The Bulls WON 122-110 with the return of Joakim Noah and Justin Holiday. It was really great to see Joakim back to playing in the UC again. Even Benny The Bull had a little fun with Jo during the player introductions. The crowd stood up for him when he entered the game mid-way through the 1st Quarter. You can really tell that he loves Chicago and he appreciates all the time he spent here.
In terms of the game, Robin Lopez started the game off strong, with 12 points in the first quarter and ending up with a Season High 25 points and Otto Porter Jr had a CAREER HIGH with 37 points on 16/20 shooting,10 rebounds and really helped to control the flow of the offense. Lauri chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds.
As predicted last week, Rawle Alkins has joined the Bulls again and played tonight in Garbage time in the 4th quarter. He will be interesting to watch as the season winds down. The guy is a dunking beast and it will be great to see just one jam from Rawle before the season ends.

Bulls Trade Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker to Washington for Otto Porter Jr.

The Washington Wizards are sending Otto Porter to the Chicago Bulls for Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker.
Bobby Portis was very emotional after the trade news, leaving the UC visibly affected by the news. Just last show we talked about Bobby wanting to be a Bull for life.
Jabari Parker was surprised the Bulls moved Bobby Portis: “Bobby is the leader, the captain of our team, and just a guy that they loved. For him to get moved is obviously bitter. But hey, that’s just how it goes.’’
Jabari said he was going to get his last Chicago meal at Harold’s on 87th before heading to DC.
Marcus: If it’s me, I go to Lem’s Ribs, but Harold’s is good. One of these days I’ll share my meeting Michael Jordan story in the parking lot at Carson’s Ribs in Deerfield at Midnight the night of a huge win back in 1996.
Otto Porter Jr. Stats: https://www.foxsports.com/nba/otto-porter-jr-player-stats
In terms of Porter Jr, the 25-year-old has a chance to start fresh in a new location where he can take advantage of his natural talents. Despite modest scoring numbers, the forward can be an impact player while filling up the stat sheet in a number of ways.
He can rebound, defend and make open shots, knocking down 44.1 percent from three-point range in 2017-18.
The player’s all-around contributions helped him lead the Wizards and rank 26th in the league with 8.1 win shares last season, per Basketball Reference. His 9.4 win shares in 2016-17 was good for 21st in the NBA.
The 2013 No. 3 overall draft pick has continued to improve his all-around game and maintains his All-Star potential as he starts the next stage of h…

Post Game Analysis for Bulls vs Heat

The Bulls and Miami Heat just went at it in Miami. The Bulls WON 105-89. Zach Lavine joined the ranks of the injured, sitting out the game with a mild ankle sprain. Not sure how long he will be out, but in this game, it wouldn’t make much difference. Jabari Parker didn’t even take his first shot attempt until the 4th quarter, playing limited minutes. Bobby Portis was on FIRE in the 4th quarter.

Anthony Davis wants out of New Orleans, but doesn’t want to be a Bull.

The big NBA news of this week (and in years) was that Anthony Davis has informed the New Orleans Pelicans that he won’t be signing an extension and has requested a trade.
Though Bulls fans would love the possibility of A.D. returning home to Chicago, it’s almost 100% unlikely to happen.

Wendell Carter Jr is out of surgery and ready to rehab

Carter underwent the season-ending surgery on Monday. He’ll be in a cast for 10 days and begin rehab on the thumb while wearing a splint. Though Carter never explicitly stated his rookie season is over, the Bulls have 11 weeks remaining in the regular season and will be in no rush to bring back their 19-year-old foundation piece.
Carter’s rookie season was typical but one that featured more good than bad. It took him just a few days to supplant Robin Lopez as the team’s starting center, a position he didn’t relinquish despite being one of the league’s youngest players. He averaged 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 25.2 minutes.
He played multiple roles in his 44-game rookie season, acting as a third scorer and at times an initiator in the high post while Lauri Markkanen and Kris Dunn were sidelined early in the season. As the Bulls regained their health Carter was able to focus more defensively and work around the rim.
Jim Boylen applauded Carter’s maturity in his rookie season and how he was able to bounce back from bad quarters by not letting it affect the rest of his game. His hard-nosed defensive principles certainly played to what Boylen looks for in a foundation, and Boylen was pleased with how Carter improved his shooting and decision making in the pain.
“I think he had a great learning curve in those 44 games and he’ll keep learning as he’s watching, things will make more sense to him now while he’s watching. And it’s not ideal but it is what it is.”
Carter will soak in as much as he can the rest of the season while he rehabs the thumb, and it’s Boylen’s hope that he’ll travel with and be around the team during the final weeks of the season.
Jabari is ready for 25 minutes a game

After missing the Atlanta game with a right patellar tendon strain, Jabari Parker says he expects to be available against the Clippers. He wants to play “good minutes.” “I’m a 20-25 minute guy,” Parker said. “10 minutes isn’t for me.”

Lopez vs Dunn in practice

It was reported that cent Bulls practice featured a brief altercation and shouting match between RoLo and Kris Dunn, with the two yelling at each other and Lopez being told to “cool off,” according to Teddy Greenstein at the Chicago Tribune. Lopez did not speak to media about the incident, but Dunn said they “just practiced hard.”
“We had a very, very competitive practice,” Jim Boylen said in an ESPN story by Malika Andrews. “I felt like we had some guys who are sick of not winning games.”
Boylen explained to reporters that there were no punches thrown and that everyone “treated each other with respect” when they came back. He also said that Lopez has been frustrated that he is seeing his minutes cut this season.
This is a very telling scenario, as RoLo is generally the most calm of the Bulls players. You can tell that things are getting to a boiling point with such a bad record combined with daily rumors that involve different trade scenarios.
Bobby Portis Doubles Down on the Bet on Himself

We’ve talked about how it may have been foolish for Portis not to take the offer the Bulls presented to him earlier in the year. How injuries this season may have cost him millions of dollars in the long term. However, Bobby seems to have no issues with it.
“Obviously I’ve had some injuries up to this point, but I still feel like everything is lined up. It’s about me just staying healthy now and me doing my thing. The wins and losses obviously come and go from game to game. You really can’t control that part all the time. We control our effort.
“But me, personally, I just need to stay healthy, be on the court, play as hard as I can when I can. With the minutes that coach Jim [Boylen] gives me, go out there and play with force. . . . I’m just focused on my team, turning this around, and going out there and having fun. Enjoy the ride the rest of the year.”
When talking about remaining a Bull, Bobby is pretty sure he wants to stay with Chicago.
“Obviously, I know that I really want to stay a Bull,” he said. “I can’t see myself in any other jersey. It would be weird to start the next season off in another uniform. I’ve been here for four seasons now — time flies fast — but I think I will be a Bull. . . . I’m the longest-tenured Bull and don’t want that to change.”
That he’s the longest-tenured Bull is shocking in itself.
“Yeah, that’s crazy,” he said with a laugh. “To be around this long . . . obviously ‘Bulls’ across my chest means a lot to me. I really take pride in that every time I step on the court. But at the same time, I feel like I’ve got a long way to go.”

Cameron Payne is no longer a Chicago Bull.

Last Thursday the Bulls finally waived Cameron Payne, affectionately known on this show as “the Tank Commander”. He’s since been picked up by Cleveland on a 10 day contract. This may be his last shot at playing in the NBA. Payne scored 10 points in 22 minutes off the bench in his debut with the team on Tuesday.
Payne was traded to the Bulls from OKC along with Anthony Morrow and Joffrey Lauvergne, in exchange for Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson, who the Thunder thought would pair well with Carmelo Anthony to compete against Golden State. Obviously this trade didn’t work out well for either of the teams.
Payne was the 14th pick in the 2015 NBA draft and averages  5.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 144 games played. For the Bulls his best game was this season on October 24, 2018, Payne scored all of his career-high 21 points in the second half of the Bulls’ 112–110 win over the Charlotte Hornets, going 7 for 11 on 3-pointers.
This departure means that the Brazilian Marshmallow, Cristiano Felicio has been promoted to the new Chicago Bulls Tank Commander. We know he will serve us well in that capacity, just as we expect him to.
Bulls get Michael Carter-Williams from Houston and Immediately waive him.

The Houston Rockets agreed to trade guard Michael Carter-Williams and cash to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for a protected second-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft on Monday.
In corresponding roster moves, Carter-Williams and MarShon Brooks were waived by the Bulls.
The Rockets made the deal to avoid Carter-Williams’ contract guarantee for the season. Houston would have had to guarantee the remaining money on his deal at 5 p.m. ET Monday.
Carter-Williams averaged 4.3 points and 1.3 assists in 16 games with the Rockets. He began the season as part of the rotation but has sat 13 of the past 14 games.
It’s highly unlikely the draft pick will convey since it is heavily protected, according to Wojnarowski. The deal was likely structured to be a straight cash dump on the Rockets’ part. The Bulls get cash considerations for taking on a cap hit while never actually paying out any money, while the Rockets avoid having Carter-Williams’ number added to their tax.
Memphis suffers a blow that makes them reconsider their recent trade of Wayne Selden.

Last week we broke the news that Justin Holiday was going to Memphis in a trade that brought Marshon Brooks and Wayne Selden to the Bulls. Since the trade, Holiday has gone 1 for 10 in a Grizzlies jersey, but more significant is the injury to Dillon Brooks who will now be out for the season. This would put Selden in the starting role for Memph…
